What it's about
This course sits between business and technology. It teaches you how companies use computer systems to run better, make smarter decisions, and stay ahead of competitors.

What you'll learn, module by module:

  1. Intro to Information Systems – What these systems are, why they matter to a business, and how they help a company beat its competition.
  2. Data & Knowledge Management – How companies store huge amounts of data (databases, "big data," data warehouses) and use tools (Business Intelligence) to turn that data into useful insights for decision-making.
  3. Ethics & Security – The risks to computer systems (hacking, data theft, privacy issues) and how businesses protect themselves.
  4. Social Computing & E-Commerce – How businesses use the web (social media, online marketing, mobile apps) to sell products and manage customer relationships — buying and selling online (B2B, B2C, mobile commerce).
  5. Computer Networks – The basics of wired and wireless networks, plus newer trends like cloud computing (renting computing power/storage over the internet).
  6. Information Systems Within a Company – How different departments (sales, finance, HR) use their own systems, how a big company-wide system called ERP ties everything together, and the basic steps for building new software systems.
